Protecting the Dignity of Poultry Workers

Over 72,000 Christians added their name to our petition to advocate for humane working conditions in poultry plants.

Tyson Foods, Pilgrim's, Perdue, and Sanderson Farms:

We believe every human being has the right to be treated with dignity and respect. We also care deeply about where the chicken we eat comes from and for those who help get it to our dinner table. So, we pledge to support workers and their rights to fair pay and benefits, to a safe working environment, and to having a voice in the workplace.  We call on your companies as industry leaders to implement the necessary changes in your factories that will ensure your workers have the right to safety, opportunity, and dignity in their labor.

Impact:

The petition was dropped off at the Tyson Foods Headquarters and was accompanied by a rally outside, which generated media coverage on five television stations in the Ft. Smith, Arkansas and Springfield, Missouri areas.

Tyson Foods announced pay increases for a third of its workers — 34,000 employees in more than 50 plants across the United States and announced a pilot project to improve worker health and safety, with a focus on worker communication and data gathering.

Fifteen Members of Congress signed a letter to OSHA urging them to monitor the poultry industry with increased scrutiny and OSHA announced a new Regional Emphasis Program to monitor the poultry industry in southern states.
