Ending the Practice of Torture

Ending the Practice of Torture

Over 73,000 Christians signed our petition asking Rep. Pompeo to obey the law and follow Christian morality by rejecting torture in every way.

In 2015, a new law authored by Senator John McCain and passed by Congress permanently banned the "enhanced interrogation techniques," including waterboarding and sexual humiliation, that were briefly part of the CIA's torture program. Congressman Pompeo, as President-elect Trump's nominee to be the next CIA Director, we ask that you promise to obey this U.S. law and follow Christian morality by rejecting torture in every way.

Of those 73,000 Christians, over 4,600 placed confirmed calls into the following Congressional offices asking the Members of Congress to find out where President Trump's nominees stand on torture and to tell them that torture is always wrong:

  • Rep. Mike Pompeo (KS)

  • Sen. Bob Corker (TN)

  • Sen. Dan Sullivan (AK)

  • Sen. Joe Manchin (WV)

  • Sen. Lindsey Graham (SC)

  • Sen. Mike Lee (UT)

  • Sen. Mike Rounds (SD)

  • Sen. Richard Burr (NC)

  • Sen. Thom Tillis (NC

  • Sen. Roger Wicker (MS)

  • Sen. Susan Collins (ME)

  • Sen. Ted Cruz (TX)

  • Sen. Tom Cotton (AR)

Impact:

Both Sen. Sessions and Rep. Pompeo publicly committed in their confirmation hearings for U.S. Attorney General and CIA Director respectively to uphold the ban on torture, going against what President Trump had said during his campaign.
